Liver cancer is classified as one of the most common cancers in Hong Kong and is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the city. Due to its complex causes and lack of obvious early symptoms, patients often delay treatment, allowing the cancer to spread. Hong Kong records nearly 1,800 new cases of liver cancer annually, with over 1,500 deaths. According to data from the Hospital Authority in 2020, over 70% of the patients diagnosed with liver cancer are male, with an average age of onset between 63 and 69 years. ^[1]
